DOWNTOWN AQUARIUM PROVIDES A PERMANENT HOME FOR RESCUED TIGER CUB

 

HOUSTON, TX, APRIL 14, 2021 –  Houston’s Downtown Aquarium announced today a rescued, 14-week-old tiger cub has permanently joined the family-friendly destination’s roster
of more than 400 species. The male tiger cub was rescued by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in San Antonio before finding a temporary home at the San Antonio Zoo. The tiger cub was found at a home in San Antonio in undesirable conditions; and will now live in the Downtown Aquarium’s Maharaja’s Temple where it will progressively adapt to its new environment of a temperature-regulated indoor exhibit and a state-of-the-art, $4 million outdoor exhibit. The 3,500-square-foot, multilevel outdoor habitat offers lush greenery and landscaping, artificial trees, rockwork with natural substrates scattered throughout, and a tranquil waterfall that flows into a large temperature-regulated pool where he can relax and
play.


The exotic animal, who requires special care, will receive proper aid and around-the-clock attention from Downtown Aquarium’s staff specialists and three top-tier veterinarians.

Houston's Downtown Aquarium is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), Zoological Association of America, and Humane Certified by American Humane. As accredited by the AZA, Downtown Aquarium meets and exceeds the highest standard in animal care and welfare. Downtown Aquarium employs a full-time staff, with over 55 years of zoo and Aquarium experience that monitor the cats 365 days a year. In addition to the staff, there are two veterinarians that visit the facility and provide care to the tigers several times a month and
remain on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
